Avoid Clogged Skimmer and Pump Baskets

One of the simplest ways to prevent trouble with your swimming pool is to make sure the skimmer basket and pump basket never become clogged. When these baskets become clogged, water flow from the pump is restricted and can be the start of several different pool problems.

Restricted water flow to the pool pump puts stress on the pump motor and can lead to a short life span for the motor and a premature and costly repair. Also, the reduced flow means less filtration and potentially a cloudy or green pool.

Since you're the pool owner, get to know how often the baskets need to be cleaned out during the different seasons of the year, and then clean them out accordingly. Depending on the landscape in your back yard, basket cleaning may be rare during the heat of summer and the coldest part of winter, but may be required daily during the spring or fall when the leaves and blossoms most active.

Also, be sure to inspect the baskets themselves each time you clean them out. If you notice they are getting old, cracked, or chipped, replace them right away and you can avoid a whole different set of pool problems.
