Pool Tips on Pool Maintenance - Prevent Pool ProblemsBe Diligent with the Pool's Water LevelAlways keep the water level half way up the skimmer intake to make sure the pool pump has plenty of water and doesn't run dry. The idea is to keep the pump pot filled with water and keep air from entering the system. If the pool's water level gets too low, the pump will start drawing air. This reduces circulation and filtration putting the pool at a higher risk of cloudy pool water or algae problems. Also, if the pool pump does run dry for any length of time, the motor will eventually overheat and become damaged, and your checkbook will soon be lighter when you have to replace it. If you have a hard time keeping up with the water level in your pool, make sure you have a working pool skimmer float valve so the pump will divert the suction to the main drain instead of the skimmer when the water level falls below the skimmer intake. Also, consider a PoolKeeper Auto Fill that will automatically keep the water level where it needs to be. Helpful Products for this Tip PoolKeeper Auto Fill pool skimmer float valve
