Clamp Nut is Stripped

It's a common problem with the Hayward SwimClear Pool Filter, after cleaning the filter cartridges and while re-tightening the clamp during reassembly of the filter, the clamp nut strips and won't tighten to secure the clamp. When this happens the clamp nut is unusable and needs to be replaced, and the filter will not be usable until that time.

To prevent this problem in the future, after purchasing a new Hayward Clamp Nut, when installing the new nut, lubricate it with a silicone pool lubricant. The lubrication will make disassembly and reassembly easier and reduce friction and wear on the nut when servicing the filter.

Since this replacement part is often special order from local pool stores, purchase an extra nut to have on hand just in case one of the nuts strip again. It's not a good situation having this problem pop up in the middle of a heat wave when the pool equipment needs to be running every day. You could easily find yourself waiting several days for the new part to arrive and at the same time watching your pool turn green.
