Articles on Alternate SanitizersDoes the PoolRx Really Work? The PoolRx Mineral Clarifier promises to eliminate many different pool problems and make pool maintenance much easier. It promises elimination of algae problems and algaecides, savings through reduced pool chemical usage, less time spent on pool maintenance, and a crystal clear more natural eco-friendly pool all year long. It almost sounds too good to be true. So does the PoolRx really work? Lets start off by establishing that there is no magic pill when it comes to swimming pool maintenance. If there were, we would all know about it. There are certain pool maintenance tasks that must be done in a timely manner, and if these tasks are neglected, it won't matter what chemicals get put in the pool water, it will end up turning green sooner or later. But, the PoolRx Unit does offer an alternate solution for maintaining a swimming pool with less chemicals and less effort. Although not a magic pill, the PoolRx is about as easy to introduce into the pool as is taking a pill. Simply drop the unit into the pump basket or skimmer basket. The minerals in the PoolRx will then be distributed into the pool water within a few hours forming a stable residue that will not be affected by the sunlight or heat. The minerals are then rejuvenated each day as the pump runs and the water passes back over the unit. In a typical swimming pool, the minerals will last up to 6 months. The minerals need to be supplemented after 6 months with a PoolRx Booster. The PoolRx Unit itself needs to be replaced each year. The PoolRx system works using a natural formula of silver, copper, and zinc to eliminate algae, bacteria, and viruses naturally. Used in combination with the basics of routine pool maintenance, it can help keep your pool water pure and sparkling clean by reducing or eliminating the need to shock or use algaecides in the pool, and reducing time-consuming maintenance tasks that go along with pool water problems such as algae blooms. In a most recent example of how the Pool Rx works, a few weeks ago I had a customer who had the beginnings of a yellow or mustard algae bloom forming on the walls of the pool. The normal treatment would be to thoroughly brush the pool, run the filter extra hours to filter the algae, then clean the main filter to clear out all the algae. Then if the algae returned any time soon, an algaecide would be required. Instead, I installed a PoolRx Clarifier Unit and let the pump run its normally scheduled cycle. Within a day or two the water was crystal clear and the yellow algae was starting to disappear. Less than a week later it was completely gone. No brushing, no extra expense on additional filtration time, and no algaecide. Going forward, as long as the basic pool maintenance is performed, a low level of chlorine residual is maintained, and with proper filtration, the pool will be algae free for the next 6 months. So does the PoolRx really work? Based on my experience over several years of experimenting with many different situations and many different pools, the PoolRx works great as a supplement to most residential pools and can not only save time and effort fighting algae problems, but can save money with a reduction in pool chemical expenses and a reduction in filtration cycle time. For the small investment involved, the PoolRx is definitely worth giving a try to see if it has benefits for your pool.
