Goldline Aqua Rite Salt Chlorinator - When To Add Salt
The ideal salt level for the
Goldline Aqua Rite Salt Chlorinator is 2700 - 3400 ppm. It's very important to monitor and maintain a proper salt level so the chlorine generator can produce an adequate amount of chlorine to keep the swimming pool properly sanitized. Following are some tips on managing the salt level in pools with the Goldline Aqua Rite Salt System installed.
What Causes the Salt Level to Change - the only way the salt level increases is when salt is added to the pool. The salt level can decrease for many different reasons. Swimmers splashing water out of the pool, backwashing the filter, and draining water when the pool water level gets too high are the most common ways the salt level will decrease. Salt is not lost from evaporation. If the salt level is constantly falling, it is very likely that there is a leak somewhere in the pool that needs to be fixed.
Lowering Salt Level - if too much salt is added and the salt level in the pool gets too high (above 3400), the
Aqua Rite Chlorinator may shut down and stop producing chlorine. Also, at high salt levels, the pool water may begin to taste salty. The only way to reduce the salt level in the pool is by partially draining water from the pool and refilling with fresh water.
Increasing Salt Level - if the salt level is too low (below 2700), the chlorinator may still produce some chlorine, but at lower levels than needed to maintain the proper sanitation needed in most pools. Add salt to the pool as soon as possible.
What Type of Salt To Use - Only sodium chloride (NaCl), salt that is greater than 99% pure, should be used in swimming pool water with the
Goldline Aqua Rite salt water chlorination system. The local pool store and many large retail stores will carry salt made specifically for swimming pools that comes in 40 - 80 lb bags. Do NOT use rock salt with yellow prussiate of soda, salt with anti-caking additives, or iodized salt.
How To Add Salt - make sure the pool pump is on and the pool water is circulating before adding salt. Add salt directly to the pool, then brush to help the salt dissolve and avoid the salt accumulating in one spot. Turning the pool cleaner on will also help mix and dissolve the salt. Run the filter for 24 hours to allow the salt to evenly disperse in the pool water. It may take up to 24 hours for the salt level to change on the Aqua Rite display.
Adding Salt to New Plaster Pools - for newly plastered swimming pools, wait 10 - 14 days before adding salt. This will allow the plaster to cure and avoid any damage to the new plaster. Be sure to consult the plaster company for their recommendations.
The
Goldline Aqua Rite Chlorine Generator can save time and money on pool maintenance. But it takes routine monitoring of the Aqua Rite display to make sure the salt level is always at the proper level to allow the system to work efficiently and maintain a sufficient level of sanitation in the swimming pool at all time.
