Articles on Pool FiltersTips on Cleaning a Jandy CL Series Cartridge Swimming Pool FilterThe Jandy CL Series Swimming Pool Cartridge Filter is among the best swimming pool filters on the market today and will serve you well if you keep it maintained and cleaned properly throughout the year. The Jandy CL Series Cartridge Filter comes in several different sizes - 340, 460, and 580 square feet. The Jandy CL340 cartridge filter is sufficient for most standard size swimming pools, but for pools over 20,000 gallons, the Jandy CL460 or Jandy CL580 cartridge filter might be a better fit. . For most swimming pools with a Jandy CL Series Cartridge Filter installed, cleaning the filter quarterly is sufficient. Follow these steps to clean a Jandy CL Series Cartridge Pool Filter. Turn Off The Pool Equipment - make sure you turn off the pool equipment before beginning to clean the filter. If possible, turn off the circuit breaker for the pool equipment so the pump will not come on while the filter is disassembled. . Relieve Filter Pressure - Open the air release valve on the top of the filter in order to relieve the pressure from the filter. Drain the Filter - Remove the Filter Drain Plug from the bottom of the filter in order to allow the water to be completely drained from the filter. Open the Filter - while the water in the filter is draining, remove the filter tank clamp from the outside of the filter. Remove the Filter Top - once the water is completely drained from the filter and the filter tank clamp has been removed, carefully remove the filter top and set it out of the way. Be careful not to damage the pressure gauge and air release valve on the top of the filter tank top. . Remove the Top Manifold - carefully remove the top manifold from the filter cartridges. It might be necessary to slowly and carefully pry the manifold using a large flat head screwdriver in order to separate the manifold from the filter cartridges. Remove the Filter Cartridges - carefully remove the four Jandy filter cartridges one at a time by pulling straight up and twisting both ways on the filter cartridge until they slide off the filter cartridge support on the tank bottom. Clean the Filter Cartridges - using a high-pressure hose attachment, thoroughly clean all four Jandy filter cartridges removing as much debris as possible from the cartridges. The cartridges are clean when the water coming out of the cartridges no longer has debris and is running clear. Clean out the Inside of the Filter - Spray out the inside of the tank bottom to remove any debris. Rinse off and reinstall the Jandy Tank O-Ring Rinse off the tank O-ring to remove any dirt or debris. Also, rinse off the top of the tank bottom where the O-ring sits and reinstall the clean O-ring. Replace the Filter Cartridges - put the clean filter cartridges back into the tank bottom of the Jandy cartridge filter. Make sure each of the four cartridges are seated properly on the cartridge filter support located at the bottom of the tank.. Clean the small filter on the Breather Tube Assembly. - Clean off and remove any debris from the small filter on the breather tube assembly. The breather tube assembly is attached to the filter manifold assembly which fits on top of the filter cartridges. Replace the Filter Manifold - Rinse off and reinstall the top filter manifold on the filter cartridges making sure the manifold fits properly over the clean filter cartridges and outlet tube elbow. Make sure the outlet tube elbow o-ring is in good repair. If not, replace it with a new o-ring. Replace the Filter Top - carefully replace the filter top. Close the Filter - replace the filter tank clamp until tight. It might be necessary to gently hit the clamp with a rubber mallet in order to tighten the clamps enough to eliminate any leaks. Replace the Filter Drain Plug - replace the filter drain plug. If necessary, use Teflon tape to prevent leaking. Tighten the drain plug snuggly, but be careful to not overtighten. Test the Filter - with the air release valve on the top of the filter open, turn the filter on until a solid stream of water is shooting out of the air release valve. Close the Air Release Valve - close the air release valve until there is no water being released. Check for Leaks - let the filter run for a few minutes and then check for any leaks around the filter tank clamp or the filter drain plug. If leaks are detected, turn off the filter and tighten as necessary. Repeat until no leaks are detected in the pool filter. That's It, your Jandy CL Series Cartridge Pool Filter is Clean! - make a note of the filter pressure (psi) immediately after cleaning the filter for future use. Plan on cleaning your Jandy Cartridge Pool Filter as soon as the filter pressure rises by 10psi. Remember that the filter cartridges need to be replaced periodically, typically between 3 - 5 years. During the cleaning process, carefully inspect each cartridge for rips, tears, or excessive wear. When it is time to replace the cartridges, save money by shopping eBay using the following links:
