Keep the Pool Filter Clean

Neglecting the main pool filter can be the biggest mistake a swimming pool owner can make. An overly dirty or clogged filter can lead to many different pool problems.

- Low flow, insufficient circulation, cloudy water, and eventually a green swimming pool.

- The high pressure can lead to premature wearing or damage to the pool filter cartridges or grids.

- The low flow can cause the pool cleaner to stop working sufficiently.

- The clogged filter can cause extra strain on the pool pump motor resulting in a shorter life.

- Lack of chlorination if your pool has an In-line Chlorine Feeder.

To prevent these and other problems make sure to have a good pool filter pressure gauge and monitor the gauge regularly. Clean the filter when the gauge indicates a 10 psi rise, at the latest. Of course not all swimming pools are the same and some need the filter cleaned more often than others, so keeping good records will help you understand how your pool works and how often the filter needs to be cleaned throughout the year.
