Most Common Reasons for Cloudy Pool Water

When your pool water turns cloudy, there could be several different reasons. Below are the most common causes of cloudy swimming pool water.

Insufficient Filtration and/or Circulation - lack of pool water circulation and filtration can be caused by one or more of the following - dirty pool filter, clogged skimmer basket, clogged pump basket, low water level, or short filtration cycle.

Poor Water Chemistry - High pH, Low or Zero Chlorine Residual

Keep in mind that cloudy pool water is most often the first sign of pool algae. Once the problem that caused the cloudiness is solved, it is recommended to use a good algaecide / clarifier to clear up the pool water. A product called Algatec will kill the algae and clear up the cloudy water in 24 to 48 hours.
