Use a Heavy Duty Skimmer Basket

A cracked pool skimmer basket is very common problem, yet it is frequently ignored by the average pool owner. This problem leads to larger leaves and debris getting past the basket and into the underground plumbing lines and to the pool pump. This puts the pool at risk of clogged plumbing, a clogged pump basket or pump impeller, reduced water flow and insufficient filtration, and eventually a green pool.

The skimmer basket can crack for many reasons, but the most common reasons are old age and being clogged and overloaded with debris. When the basket gets overloaded, the suction from the pool pump will produce enough suction pressure to force the debris through the basket cracking it.

Using a heavy duty skimmer basket will solve both of these problems. They are a little more expensive, but will last for years and years without the need to be replaced and without cracking.
