Pool Tips on Pool Maintenance - Routine MaintenanceClean and Inspect the Pump Strainer Basket RegularlyIt's inevitable that some smaller debris will get by the skimmer basket or the pool cleaner leaf trap and find its way to the pump basket. This creates potential for a couple of different problems. 1 - The pump strainer basket can get clogged with debris blocking the flow of water to the pump. 2 - If the strainer basket is not in good condition and has any cracks or holes in it, debris can make its way past the basket and get trapped inside the pool pump impeller clogging the impeller and stopping it from moving the water effectively. Both of these problems will lead to reduced pool water circulation and insufficient filtration, and eventually the pool will show the signs in the form of cloudy water and algae. So make it a strict habit to clean out the pool pump basket and while you have it out, closely inspect it for any breaks or cracks where debris can get past. Replace the pump basket as soon as there are any signs of wear and tear.
