Maintain Water Chemical Balance - having a salt chlorine generator doesn't mean the pool is maintenance free. All parameters of the pool water's chemical balance still need to be maintained at proper levels. Test the pool water weekly with a good pool chemical test kit and adjust the water to maintain the pH at 7.2 - 7.6, alkalinity at 80 - 120, and cyanuric acid at 30 - 60, and monitor the salt level and add salt as necessary when indicated by the CompuPool CPSC display.
Increase Chlorine Production - in order to avoid using up all the chlorine, there are several instances where it is important to increase the chlorine production on the CompuPool Chlorinator. Having a party or an unusually high number of swimmers, or any time the temperature gets hot, increasing the chlorine production level will allow the chlorinator to produce a sufficient amount of chlorine.
Decrease Chlorine Production - during the winter months when the water is colder and the pool is not in use, use the Winter Mode on the chlorinator display. This will decrease the chlorine production by 50 percent and help maximize the life of the cell.
Superchlorinate - The SuperChlor mode on the CompuPool CPSC Chlorinator will allow it to produce an extra high amount of chlorine when needed. Use this mode after a big party or when the pool gets cloudy or shows any signs of an algae bloom. The chlorinator will return to normal mode in 24 hours. Avoid swimming until the chlorine residual level test results produce a normal reading of 1 to 3 ppm.
Stablilizer (Cyanuric Acid) - as with any chlorine sanitized swimming pool, maintaining the proper level of stabilizer is the only way to maintain a consistent and proper level of chlorine residual. The CompuPool CPSC salt chlorinator will automatically produce a sufficient amount of chlorine as long as the cyanuric acid level is kept between 30 and 60 ppm and all the other pool water chemistry is kept in check. The stabilizer level can be tested with a Cyanuric Acid Test Kit. If you are struggling with low chlorine levels, insufficient stabilizer could be the problem.
The CompuPool Salt Chlorine Generator is a great addition to any swimming pool and can offer a much more comfortable swimming experience. Following the basic tips above can help understand how to best use the chlorinator to take full advantage of it's benefits.
