Articles on Polaris Pool CleanersPolaris 360 Getting Tied in KnotsThe Polaris 360 Pool Cleaner is among the best pressure side pool cleaners not requiring a booster pump. Installed properly and in good working order it will keep the bottom of the pool clean throughout the year. On occasion the Polaris 360 will start showing signs that it needs maintenance. One of these symptoms is frequently going in circles and getting tied up in knots. This can happen for several different reasons. Cracked or Malfunctioning Backup Valve - the backup valve is the bulky part attached to the feed hose about 6 - 8 feet from the pool cleaner. The purpose of this valve is to pull the cleaner backwards every few minutes in order to back it out of any spot in the pool where it might have been stuck. As this part gets old it will develop cracks that will leak water pressure. As this leak gets bigger, less water pressure will get to the cleaner and it will show signs of unusual sluggishness. Eventually, so much water will be leaking from the crack, the water pressure from the leak will move the cleaner in unpredictable directions, which could lead to it getting tied in knots. Another possibility is a gear on the inside of this valve malfunctioning and the valve getting stuck in backup position. When this happens the cleaner will eventually go in circles, ending up in a knot. If the Backup Valve is cracked, replace the Polaris 360 Backup Valve Case Kit If a gear on the inside of the valve is malfunctioning, replace the complete Polaris 360 Backup Valve Feed Hose Leak - with the Polaris 360 operating, slowly lift each section of the feed hose out of the water to check for leaks. As the feed hose gets old it will get brittle and develop leaks. Similar to a leak in the backup valve, a leak in a section of feed hose will make the cleaner move in unpredictable directions that can lead to getting tied in a knot. If this problem is found, replace the Polaris 360 Feed Hose. Feed Hose Floats Saturated - the feed hose floats are attached to the feed hose and are intended to keep the feed hose floating on top of the water. As the floats get old they become saturated with water and begin to sink the hose. When the hose is not floating, the Polaris 360 will drive over the hose and will eventually end up in a knot. To test the floats, remove them from the hose and drop them in the pool. If they sink, then need to be replaced. Replace them with Polaris 360 Feed Hose Floats. When your Polaris 360 Pool Cleaner is constantly getting tied in knots, it is a clear sign that the cleaner needs some maintenance. Usually this symptom is related to one of the three reasons listed above.
