Articles on Polaris Pool CleanersPolaris 3900 Sport Pool Cleaner - Tail Getting Sucked Into Vacuum TubeThe Polaris 3900 Sport Pool Cleaner is the latest in high performance automatic pool cleaners and can do a great job helping to keep the swimming pool clean. But like any other mechanical device, it can have occasional problems that require troubleshooting and adjustment. If the tail of the cleaner, technically called the sweep hose, is getting sucked into the vacuum tube, there are a few common reasons this problem may be occurring. Sweep Hose Needs Adjustment - the polaris sweep hose should be moving in a slow sweeping motion. If there isn't enough movement the tail will get sucked into the cleaner. The sweep hose can be adjusted by turning the adjustment screw located at the base of the tail. Turn it counter clockwise until there is enough pressure to produce a slow sweeping motion. End of Sweep Hose Blocked - sometimes the end of the sweep hose can get obstructed by the sweep hose scrubber and the tail will not have enough movement and will can get sucked into the cleaner. Verify that the tail scrubber is installed properly and not blocking the water flow from the tail and replace if necessary. Polaris 3900 Moving Too Fast - if the Polaris 3900 Wheel RPM is too high and the cleaner is moving too fast, it can result in the sweep hose getting drawn into the vacuum tube . Adjust the Wheel RPM to 36 RPM as described in the owner's manual. Sweep Hose Weight Needed - a less likely reason the cleaner's tail will get sucked into the cleaner is a lack of proper sweep hose weight. Typically the tail weight delivered with a new Polaris 3900 Pool Cleaner is the correct weight, so this is not a common problem. When your Polaris 3900 Sport Pool Cleaner starts having a problem where the sweep hose is getting sucked up into the cleaner, making the above adjustments should solve the issue in most cases. If not, call a local pool service professional or the local pool store for help.
