As the pool cleaner starts to age, there are several parts that will need to be replaced to keep the pool cleaner working efficiently. One sure sign that the Legend needs attention is when the hoses start getting tangled on a routine basis. There are several different problems that will cause the Legend's feed hose to start getting tangled up and tied in knots. Feed Hose Too Long - if the length of the Letro Legend Feed Hose is too long, the cleaner will have a tendency to get tangled up and tied in knots. The length of excess hose longer than the farthest point on the pool should be no more than 2 feet. Any excess hose should be cut from the longer 11 ft middle hose. Divide the excess amount of feed hose by 2, and then remove that length of hose from both ends of the middle feed hose. Hose Floats Need To Be Replaced - the Letro Legend Hose Floats should be evenly spaced and floating. As the hose floats get old, they will eventually become water logged and stop floating. When this happens, the feed hose sinks and the pool cleaner will be able to move over the top of the feed hose causing the cleaner to work its way into knots. To test the hose floats, remove them from the feed hose and place them in the swimming pool to make sure they float. If they don't, replace them. Bad Hose Swivels - if the Letro Legend Hose Swivels don't spin freely, the random path of the Legend will be restricted and the pool cleaner will work its way into getting tangled. If the hose swivels don't spin freely, replace them. Feed Hose Memory - after several years of use or after being stored in a coil position for any length of time, the Letro Legend Feed Hose can form a memory. This memory will cause the pool cleaner to go in circles and end up getting tangled. The memory can sometimes be removed by laying the feed hose out in the hot sun for a day. Make sure to lay the hose out in a straight line. If this doesn't remove the memory, replace the feed hose. Backup Valve Not Working Properly - sometimes the Letro Legend Backup Valve can malfunction and remain in the backup mode continuously. When this happens, the cleaner will back itself into a knot. To test the backup valve, hold it just out of the water with the cleaner on for several minutes. The backup valve should cycle from normal mode where no water comes out, to the backup mode where a good stream of water comes out. If the backup valve does not cycle, this could be the problem. When the Pentair Legend Pool Cleaner starts ending up in knots during normal cleaning operations, it needs attention. Working through the tips listed above should help identify the problem. If not, it may be necessary to bring the cleaner into the local pool store or call a pool service professional for help.
