A new Legend can work for several years with as little maintenance as cleaning and replacing the debris bag. But when the pool cleaner starts acting up and isn't working as expected, a little attention can get help fix the problem. One obvious symptom of a problem is when the Legend is either moving very slow or not moving at all. When this happens, try the following troubleshooting tips to help find the problem. Is The Pool Equipment Working Properly? - the first check should be to make sure the pool equipment is working properly and providing enough pressure to the Legend pool cleaner. Make sure all baskets are clean and the main filter has been cleaned recently. Turn on the system and observe its operation. If all the pool equipment is working properly, there is good water flow, and the cleaner is still not working, the problem is most likely a mechanical issue with the Legend. Check the Wall Fitting Filter Screen - with the system off, disconnect the pool cleaner wall fitting and inspect the small filter screen that fits into the wall fitting. If this screen is clogged with debris, there won't be enough water pressure getting to the cleaner and the cleaner will not work or will be sluggish. If the wall fitting repeatedly gets clogged with debris, this is an indication that debris is getting by the main filter. Inspect the filter for incorrect installation or a breach in the filter cartridges or filter grids. Test the Backup Valve - the Legend pool cleaner has a backup valve that is installed on the feed hose about six to ten feet from the cleaner. The backup valve repositions the pool cleaner when it gets stuck in the corners or steps of the pool. If working properly, it will cycle on every three minutes or so and remain on for around 30 seconds. With the pool cleaner on, hold the backup valve just above the surface of the water and observe its behavior. As backup valves get old, the internal parts can stop working or a crack will develop on the casing. When this happens, the valve will not completely shut off depriving the cleaner of full water pressure. If this is the case, replace or repair the backup valve. Toys or Debris Jammed in the Legend - a common reason the Legend stops working efficiently is toys or other debris get caught in the cleaner or the cleaner wheels. With the equipment off, remove the cleaner from the water and inspect the cleaner for obstructions. Inspect the Feed Hose - with the cleaner on, inspect the feed hose , hose connections, and hose swivels for leaks that can cause a loss of water pressure to the cleaner. Worn Wheels or Wheel Bearings - visually inspect the wheels on the cleaner. First make sure the teeth of the wheels are not worn down to the point where they will not engage the gears. If the teeth look good, check to make sure none of the wheel bearings have gone bad. A properly working Legend pool cleaner is a crucial factor in keeping a swimming pool looking good all year long. If these troubleshooting tips don't help find the problem with the cleaner, consider taking the cleaner to the local pool store to get their opinion.
